Australia
Australia may be the world's smallest continent, but it is the largest island at 7.69 million square kilometers (2.969 million square miles). It's made up of six states and two territories and is the only continent that has a single national government. The Aboriginal people are believed to have thrived for 50,000 years on the continent, but modern immigration didn't start until 200 years ago. The result is a culturally diverse society with different linguistic, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. Many of Australia's native plants and wildlife can only be found on this amazing continent, like the koala, dingo, wallaby, kangaroo, and platypus. A visit to Australia is like no place else on Earth.
