Island of Hawaii

The largest and youngest island in the Hawaiian chain is home to the world's most active volcano (Kilauea) and the tallest sea mountain (Maunakea). This unique island offers all but two of the world's climate zones. Tour a coffee plantation and see how the beans are processed, then visit the historic Kailua-Kona town where King Kamehameha I spent his later years. From lush rainforests and majestic waterfalls to beautiful black sand beaches and snow-capped mountaintops, you will find the Island of Hawaii inspiring.

🏄
TIP:
The entire family will enjoy a day exploring Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park where they can see a live volcano, scalded deserts, rainforests, vent holes and walk through a lava tube. There are also 150 miles of hiking trails and a museum. Most waterfalls can be found on the slopes of the Mauna Kea volcano close to Hilo and on the Hamakua coast. Farmers markets are a little-known gems of the Big Island of Hawaii. They are spread over the whole island and allow visitors to meet locals, shop for arts and crafts, and enjoy edible treasures. Don’t leave Hawaii without seeing one of the famous black sand beaches.

Visit Volcanoes National Park

On the Big Island resides the world's most active volcano.  Watch as the Hawaiian Islands grow and the process by which they were formed.

See the Stars from Mauna Kea

Near the summit of Mauna Kea resides the largest collection of powerful telescopes on earth.  And at over 13,000 feet, you will likely see what very few vistors to Hawaii have seen - snow on the ground.

Honu

Protected by the endangered Species Act, these loveable green sea turtles can be found swimming in the water or sunning on the beach.  Please feel free to admire their beauty and take pictures, but please don't touch.
