FIJI FACTS

WEATHER
This beautiful tropical climate ranges in temperature from 31°C - 26°C (87°F - 78°F) year round. Fiji’s seasons are opposite to those in the northern hemisphere. So, December to February is summer, March to May is autumn, June to August is winter, and September to November is spring. Some of the best months to visit are March through November. A gentle trade wind blows from the east southeast and provides a cooling breeze. The rainy season is normally November to April and is often characterized by short bursts of heavy rain. The annual average rainfall is about 2,000mm to 3,000mm (78in - 118in) on the coast and up to 6000mm (236in) in the mountains.

WHAT TO PACK
No matter what time of year you visit, you will want to pack appropriate clothing. Shorts, t-shirts, cotton dresses, and swimwear are adequate, but you may want to pack a light jacket. Be sure to bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and tennis shoes or sandals especially for swimming around coral. Men and women alike may want to get a wrap-around sulu (sarong). They are versatile and lightweight and the resort staff can help you tie it in different ways. Please use discretion with your form of dress. Bikinis and swimming briefs are fine at the resort, but not when visiting villages or shopping in town.

CURRENCY
The unit of currency in Fiji is the Fijian dollar, but most major credit cards are accepted. Currency can be exchanged at banks, hotels, and at international airports. Traveler’s checks are not widely accepted. Not all merchants carry all credit cards and some may impose a credit card surcharge. Any amount of foreign currency may be brought in to Fiji and the same amount may be taken out of Fiji.

INTERNET AND ELECTRICITY
Unless your electronic equipment has a multi-voltage option, an adapter/converter will be necessary. The electricity supply in Fiji runs at 240 volts and uses three pin plugs – the same as Australia and New Zealand. Leading resorts and hotels may offer universal outlets for 240v or 110v appliances or 110v adapter. Cell phone coverage is available across Fiji but may be limited in some areas. Visitors are encouraged to check with their network providers for their roaming status before traveling.
