Yasawa The Yasawa Islands, first sighted by British navigator William Bligh in 1789, is made up of six main islands and several small islets. The Islands were closed off to the public until 1987 when the Fiji government lifted the restrictions. As a result, the land remains virtually untouched with offers few resorts and it is a backpacker’s paradise. Sailing, snorkeling, and kayaking are popular activities for both travelers staying on one of the islands and for day-trip cruise ship passengers. These groups of islands are perfect for someone that really wants to get away from it all.
